Information You Enter
A name, phone number, or address entered into a search widget is sent to the third-party provider that operates that result service. Santa Barbara Residents Directory does not keep a copy of those search terms on its own servers. If you send a message, the operators receive the contents and any contact details you include so a reply can be made.
Routine Technical Logs
The hosting system may record ordinary web data such as an IP address, browser type, page request, referring page, and time. These logs are used in aggregate for security, fault review, and basic traffic measures. They are not used to create a Santa Barbara resident profile.
How Information Is Used
Contact information is used to answer a message, investigate a technical issue, or protect the service from abuse. Aggregate traffic data helps identify broken links or unusual access patterns. Search data sent to an outside provider is governed by that provider's own privacy notice and terms.
Links to Other Services
Pages link to the Santa Barbara County Recorder, Assessor, Elections, courts, City portals, California agencies, libraries, and archives. Opening one of those services creates a separate interaction with its operator. A linked government office controls its own data, retention, access, and correction rules.
Who May Receive Information
Hosting, security, analytics, email, and sponsored search vendors may process the limited data needed to provide their functions. Information is not sold by Santa Barbara Residents Directory as a resident list. Disclosure may also occur when needed to address a security event, comply with law, or protect a person's rights.
Security Measures
Reasonable administrative and technical steps are used to limit access to messages and logs. No internet transmission or storage system is guaranteed to be risk-free. Do not send a Social Security number, full financial account number, medical detail, or other sensitive information through a general contact message.
Visitors Under 18
The service is not directed to children under 13, and no account is designed for a minor. A parent or guardian who believes a child has sent personal information may use the Contact page to request a review and deletion of information held in the contact mailbox or logs, where applicable.
Your California Privacy Rights
Where the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, applies, Civil Code sections 1798.100 through 1798.199.100 may provide rights to know, access, correct, delete, opt out of sale or sharing, limit certain sensitive-information uses, and receive equal treatment. Covered businesses and data brokers have their own duties and exceptions. California's Delete Act, including Civil Code sections 1798.99.80 and following, created the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, or DROP, for qualifying requests to registered data brokers.
Because this service keeps little information, a request usually involves checking the contact mailbox and applicable server logs. Use the Contact page and identify the request without sending unnecessary sensitive data. Public records held by the State of California, Santa Barbara County, the City, a court, or a library are outside this service's control. A removal request for one of those records must go to its custodian.
Policy Changes
This policy may be revised when the service, vendors, or California privacy rules change. The newest version will be posted here with its effective date or other notice when appropriate. The page should be checked before sending a new request.
