1. Nature of the Service
Santa Barbara Residents Directory is a private reference about public rolls, record indexes, and historical directory collections connected with Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara County, and California. It does not host government records and is not affiliated with the City, County, State, courts, libraries, or any records custodian.
2. Acceptable Use
Use the pages and linked sources only in a lawful and responsible way. You may not use information obtained through the service to:
- Stalk, harass, threaten, intimidate, or harm a person
- Locate a person protected by a court order or confidentiality program
- Commit fraud, identity theft, impersonation, or another offense
- Make a decision regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, including credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions
- Scrape, republish, or resell pages at scale without permission
- Disrupt, probe, or undermine the service's security or operation
3. No Consumer Reports
The service is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. section 1681 and following. Information on these pages, as well as results returned by a linked tool, is not a consumer report. It must not be used to assess eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another purpose covered by that law.
4. External Links
County, City, State, court, library, archive, and sponsored search links lead to services operated by other parties. Those operators set their own terms, prices, availability, and privacy practices. Santa Barbara Residents Directory does not control or guarantee any outside service.
5. No Warranty
The service and its linked references are supplied on an as-is and as-available basis. No promise is made that a page, link, record description, fee, coverage note, or portal result is complete, accurate, current, or continuously available.
6. Liability Limits
To the fullest extent allowed by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or similar damages arising from use of the service or a linked resource. This includes action taken from a record or search result.
7. Indemnity
You agree to defend and hold the operators harmless from claims, demands, losses, and reasonable legal fees that result from your misuse of the service or breach of these terms.
8. Copyright and Copying
The original writing, layout, logo, and design are protected works. Linking to a page and quoting a brief, attributed passage is permitted. Full-page republication, systematic copying, and large-scale extraction are not.
9. Revisions
The operators may revise these terms by posting a replacement version. Continuing to use the service after the revised version appears indicates acceptance of the change.
10. Access Restrictions
Access may be suspended, blocked, or limited when a user violates these terms, abuses the service, or creates a security or legal risk. Such action may occur without advance notice.
11. California Law
California law governs these terms without applying its conflict-of-law rules. The California Public Records Act is recodified in Government Code sections 7920.000 through 7931.000, but that statute governs records held by public agencies, not this private reference. Requests for an identifiable City record may be routed through OneRequest or the responsible custodian.
12. Severability
If a court finds one provision unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect to the extent permitted by law.
13. Questions
Questions about these terms may be sent through the Contact page.
